Verizon has announced in a press release that they are continuing on the expansion in the Tampa Bay area for the all-fiber optic FiOS services. Launched initially in Keller, TX in 2004, Verizon has developed and continued to expand its TV, Internet and digital voice services by literally digging the ground and placing fiber optic cables all the way to the houses and apartments. This is a costly operation but the all-fiber network provides much faster internet speeds, better picture quality with many more add-on TV services and experience and the benefits of the digital phone over the internet.
The areas that will benefit from the FiOS service are;
PINELLAS COUNTY – St. Petersburg, Pinellas Park, Seminole, Clearwater, Countryside, Dunedin, Largo/Indian Rocks and Tarpon Springs communities.
POLK COUNTY – Lakeland, Haines City, Winter Haven and Mulberry communities.
SARASOTA AND MANATEE COUNTIES – East Bradenton, Nokomis and North Port communities.
HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – Plant City community.
Based on the press release, approximately 17,700 households will have access to Verizon FiOS and the service will be available to more than 1.17 million households in the area spanning the next several months.
According to testing by the Federal Communications Commission, Verizon’s all-fiber network delivers a TV service rated higher in overall reliability by Verizon customers than cable and satellite customers rate their TV services (based on ChangeWave Research, 2011).
As the traditional cable and DSL providers try to close the gap by changing their infrastructure from electrical cables to all-fiber cables they still have a big gap to close and reach Verizon FiOS broadband speeds and the TV picture quality. Satellite TV providers on the other hand, cannot offer a fast broadband nor quality digital voice and are prone to signal loss based on the weather conditions.
With this latest expansion, Tampa Bay-area residents will be able to add the most reliable and consistent over-the-top viewing experience on FiOS broadband according to Netflix; borderless video viewing driven by Flex View and FiOS TV Online; more than 30,000 on demand titles; crystal-clear high-definition TV; theMY FiOS app for account and entertainment management possibilities no matter where they are; access to new home monitoring and management services via Home Monitoring and Control – and more. As a result, the value delivered by the all-fiber network and Verizon is difficult to match.
“We know that consumers in these communities have been waiting for FiOS to become available to them for some time,” said Jeanmarie Milla, Verizon’s Florida region operations president. “Starting immediately and continuing over the next few months, we believe these customers will discover the difference a life on FiOS offers, including the fastest Internet available, crystal-clear HD TV, highly reliable voice services and an entertainment experience that is not limited to any one device or location.”

Most service providers in the broadband world are offering their customers a reduced price of services if they choose to buy TV, data and phone services as a bundle; i.e. all from the same company. With Verizon it is even possible to add a fourth option, your wireless service to your bill. So this means less bills and less companies to deal with each month.
